Indiana Municipal Power Agency

Your Indiana Power Partner

Powering Indiana’s Economy

Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA) focuses on providing a low-cost, reliable and environmentally responsible power supply to its 53 municipally-owned electric utilities, located throughout the state of Indiana.  Our focus helps businesses within our service territory succeed because they are able to count on the power we deliver at reasonable costs – helping their overall bottom line.

For over 25 years, IMPA has generated and purchased power on behalf of its member communities.  The Agency solely exists to serve its members, not shareholders, which helps member utilities maintain some of the lowest rates throughout the state.

Members – Different Sizes, Different Strengths

IMPA’s 53 communities span the entire state of Indiana.  Ranging in size from less than 500 to more than 50,000, the Agency’s diverse network of communities serves the energy needs of over 320,000 individuals.  In any of IMPA’s public power member communities, utility customers expect and receive competitive rates, reliable service, and great customer service.

Advantages of Indiana and Public Power Communities

Since IMPA’s members are situated all across the state, each individual community can offer a number of advantages, including easy accessibility to transportation.  Indiana has eight interstates, more than any other state in the U.S.  Additionally, more than 80% of the US and Canadian population is within one day’s drive of the state.  Indiana has an affordable, pro-business climate that helps businesses thrive and grow.  Our communities recognize the importance of keeping taxes and rates reasonable at a time when businesses and industries are forced to streamline costs and operations to compete globally.  Additionally, Indiana’s three major research universities – Purdue University, Indiana University-Purdue University, and Indiana University – all play a critical role in a comprehensive, integrated post-secondary education to meet the needs of our global economy.
